During the 2022-2023 school year, we worked collaboratively across our district and with our community to develop our 2023-2028 Strategic Plan for Catoosa Public Schools. This plan, launched in the 2023-2024 school year, sets a roadmap for continuous improvement grounded in the priorities we heard from those who work, learn, and live in our district.
Last week, members of our district and school leadership teams met with our strategic planning partner - the K20 Center - to
discuss, reflect, and learn from the first year of our strategic plan. I am pleased to share both the celebrations and opportunities for growth from that conversation with you.
Goal One: Academic Achievement
We set a goal to be a district where every student graduates not only prepared for college and careers but also with fundamental life skills. While we are seeing improvement in creating a culture of college and career readiness with expanded career-ready programs, we have work to do to improve student academic performance on the ACT.
Goal Two: Supporting Our Team
We set a goal to be a district where every teacher and support team member has opportunities for continuous professional growth and every team member feels supported. We have strengthened teacher recruitment and retention in our district, and we have room to grow our recruitment efforts to reach to a wider pool of candidates.
Goal Three: Culture and Climate
We set a goal to be a district where teacher and student voices matter and where parents and community members are empowered and active partners in learning. We have a lot to celebrate in our strong focus on supporting and engaging families, and we can improve by formalizing our parent and guardian volunteer program.
Goal Four: Strengthening Our System
We set a goal to be a district where students learn in safe and secure environments and have opportunities to explore their interests through clubs, activities, and career pathways. We have seen strong gains in this area with our agricultural education and manufacturing programs and our partnership with the Tulsa Port of Catoosa to provide on-site career-ready learning. We also continue to invest in world-class learning facilities thanks to the support of Catoosa voters on our bonds. It is important, however, that we create a long-term capital improvement plan aligned to our strategic continuous improvement plan.
Moving forward, communication and transparency will continue to be integral to our shared progress and success. We know that we are stronger, better, and more effective together, and we will continue to prioritize collaboration with you and with our community as we move into the second year of our strategic plan.
I am, as always, proud to serve Catoosa teachers, families, and students.
In service,
Robert Schornick
Superintendent
