Superintendent Update

Dear Catoosa Public Schools parents and families,

As we prepare to return to school this coming Monday, I want to take a moment to address the recent news about the closure of the federal Department of Education. I understand that this news may raise concerns, and I want to assure you that our primary focus remains on the well-being and success of our students. While change at the federal level is inevitable, we are committed to ensuring that it does not disrupt the high-quality education your child receives here at Catoosa.

As you may have heard, a new federal executive order has directed the U.S. Secretary of Education to take steps to close the Department of Education and return education authority to the states and local communities. However, it is important to note that key programs that support our most vulnerable students, such as IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) and Title I, are required by law. Any changes to these programs would require action from Congress. These are critical supports for our students, and we expect them to continue uninterrupted.

At Catoosa Public Schools, we have a clear and focused Continuous Strategic Improvement Plan that will continue to guide us, no matter what happens at the federal or state level. Our district’s vision is strong, and our work together, as a community, ensures we remain focused on what matters most - the success of every child in our care.

Together, we are building a district where:

  • Every teacher and support team member has opportunities for ongoing professional growth.

  • Teacher and student voices are heard, and parents are empowered as active partners in the learning process.

  • Students have opportunities to explore their interests and passions from pre-K through 12th grade.

  • Every student graduates not only prepared for college and careers but also equipped with essential life skills.

We've made significant progress on these goals, and I am confident that we will continue to move forward together. Please know that I will keep you updated as more information becomes available about the potential implications of this federal order.

Thank you for your continued support and commitment to our schools. Our students, families, and community are at the heart of everything we do, and together, we will navigate any changes and continue to make Catoosa Public Schools a place of excellence.

In service,

Mr. Schornick
